Singer, composer and arranger.
She was born in Naples in 1960.
She took lyric and contemporary singing lessons. In 1976 she started doing concerts as singer and musician (plectrums, percussions and piano) in bands playing ethnic music, mostly mediterranean and balcan one.
She’s been playing jazz since 1980, performing and collaborating with Italian and foreigner artists like: Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Ralph Towner, Joe Zawinul, Micheal Brecker, Dave Liebman, Miroslav Vitos, Joshua Redman, Cameron Brown, Billy Hart, Elliot Ziegmund, Steve Turre, Gary Bartz, Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Gianluigi Trovesi and many others.
She performed in many international festivals (London, Berlin, Le Mans, Nyon, Dublin, Marsiglia, Lisbon, Valladolid, Valencia, Umbria Jazz, Clusone, Roccella Ionica, Ivrea, Rome, Atina).
She did tournée in Italiy, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Ireland, England, Holland and New York, where she often performed in many jazz clubs, like the Birdland and the Performing Theatre, with coreographer Roberta Escamilla Garrison, she usually collaborates with.
From‘94 to ‘97 she worked on the “Nauplia”project, based on a fusion between neapoletan and mediterranean melody and jazz. The result of this work are the two cds “Nauplia” and “Fore Paese”, this last one ordered and produced by Istituto Suor Orsola Benincasa of Naples and published by Polosud . She’ s been collaborating with the British composer Colin Towns, with his Big Band,the “Mask Orchestra”. She recorded with them two cds and performed in Salisbury in November 1996, in London at the London Oris Jazz Festival, still in London at “Queen Elizabeth Hall” with the “Mask simphonic” (70 musicians) in March 1998, and at Berlin Festival in November 1998.
In 1998 she recorded with Rita Marcotulli and Arto Tuncboyaciyan the cd Triboh (Polosud), an interesting fusion between ethnic and jazz music.
She presented at Umbria Jazz ‘98 a cd based on the “Phonè”project with John Taylor, G. Trovesi, E. Pietropaoli, F.Sanesi. Then she started collaborating with John Taylor and Ralph Towner, a trio she did many tournée with (Marsala Festival, Atina, Marajazz, Jazz & Image in Rome).
In the last years she had a leading part in projects like: “Il Brutto Anatroccolo” (‘97) with music by Gaslini, Benito Urgu(acting voice) and the Orchestra of Sardinia; “Gesualdo’ about Gesualdo da Venosa, by and with T. Tracanna and C. Guarino; “Oltre Napoli, La notte”, by Bruno Tommaso,with Trovesi, Minafra, Pietropaoli, Lama, Larasi (both in 1998 ); “Il Celeste Specchio”(1998) by contemporary music composer Carlo Boccadoro.
